I happened upon an old thread started by Brian (Passenger Train Collector) back in 2014 asking 'What is your favorite K-Line passenger set'? Good information there from many of you. Not too many photos however and I'm certain that some of the newer members might appreciate seeing some good images of these modern classics.

Here is the 21" Observation from the seldom seen B&O 'Columbian' set. I was putting together a consist with two K-Line cars (this one and a diner) plus I came across two Weaver 20" aluminum cars with interiors that are 2 rail. Recently I acquire the 21" 4 car set from a Forum member so am offering this Obsv on the For Sale board.

Let's see your photos!

K-line K-4620G & K-line K-4620J

C&NW 21" passenger car 4-pack & 2-pack sets.

I picked them up from a guy in Australia.  He had converted them to 2 Rail with scale wheels in the 3R coupled wheel sets for ease of running.  I've posted these somewhere here before. While not an exact yellow match they look nice with my 2R Yellow Jacket.....

I have five sets of the K-Line 13 1/2" Streamliners. A NYC set that i've affixed a Tomar "Empire State Express" drumhead to, a PRR "Fleet of Modernism" set, the baggage car and combine from which i'll be posting on the "For Sale" board tonight or tomorrow. A set that i've added ribbed siding to and have made into a PRR "Senator" complete with a blunt end observation and appropriate drumhead. A set painted and numbered after the late 1940's LV "Black Diamond" with a correct solarium car made out of a Williams observation shortened complete with correct solarium windows and A/C duct on the roof; it has a CN pullman in the consist to be interchanged at Buffalo. Finally a set that i've modified to NH Osgood Bradley windows including the cafe car. Here's a few of them. Sorry I still haven't mastered a digital cameraP1010339P1010342P1010417P1010418P1010419

Nothing "earth shattering" about these, kinda generic I suppose, but I'm a big fan of K Lines 15" cars.

They are scale height and width and look just fine behind a scale locomotive, but being shorter, lack the overhang and look better on sub o-72 radius track.

The lighting is great, and as long as the track is clean flickering is a non-issue.

The only thing I had to do was pry between the electrical wipers and the axles to relieve some of the drag.  Once I did that, they rolled fantastic

I had a set of railking 15" cars, but the proportions are better on the K Line, most obvious was the larger scale trucks on the K Line.

Heres some shots of the 4870C NYC 6-pack.

Sure wish I could have got them for the $150 MSRP, that would have been robbery.

Kline also seemed to do a nicer job  with coupler spacing. These cars are "fairly close", and don't have those lonnng tunnel  diaphragms like those on MTH for instance. And of course......no ugly thumbtacks

Heres a 4 car takeout from the 4880G Broadway Limited 6 pack set I purchased from a forum member.

TEDW's set above is another fine example, I may just have to aquire one like it some day.

I'm suprised Lionel, or another manufacturer hasn't gotten their hands on the tooling, maybe they have and will.

Sam, It was quite an interesting project. The windows were from American Flyer coaches made in the early 1950's. I found damaged ones (usually with roof damage caused by a misplaced soldering iron) at train shows for $4 - $5. Often i was able to sell the trucks and couplers for that much at a different table at the same show!). After carefully measuring i removed the window area from the K-Line cars using the combination of a VERY sharp X-Acto knife and a Zona saw. It was a slow time consuming process. Next came removal of the window strips from the American Flyer Cars. This was not so easy as the plastic used in them tended to crumble. After many attempts (including using a water cooled laser cutting tool at GE - just don't tell GE's management about that), my friend and fellow train buddy suggested using his band saw with a very fine toothed blade running at a slow speed.  It worked. Then it was a matter of gluing the strips in with Plastruct Plastic Weld and reinforcing them vertically from behind with narrow pieces of .040" styrene glued in the same way. Imperfections were then filled with Squadron White and sanded with 1200 grit wet/dry paper, primed with Testor's in a rattle can, painted with Scalecoat II in a rattle can, hand painted the window frames, forgot where the LV decals came from, had the NH ones custom made. It took 1 1/2 Flyer cars as donors to make one K-Line car I made 3 NH coaches and a NH cafe car and 1 LV Coach. The project stretched well over a year, off and on, and was very labor and bourbon intensive. Thanks for the compliment.
