The Kadee #805 instructions say to file any flashing from inside the rectangular box behind coupler, then use their graphite. The few I've examined seem fine. Are most of you doing this?

I have never had to do that. I believe their instructions are some 40 years old, and Kadee has cleaned up all their parts since then.

The only flashing I've found was on the front edge of the coupler box and lid, nothing inside. I haven't used any graphite, but I noticed a couple of my couplers have been harder to close than others lately so I may have to use a bit (I think what I have is some old Labelle graphite).
I'm just starting out and was going to use the Walthers #2 X 1/2 screws on my Atlas cars with #805 kadees. Wish me luck!

There's a bit of flash usually at the front as Bob noted and there can be a bit on the one side that's marginally noticeable. Identical pattern for the 804 couplers.
Never bothered with graphite, nor seen a need for it or any other lubricant.
