I dont have the whole locomotive, was just given the tender to figure out how to get a kadee on it.  No drilling or cutting required (save for the coupler wires). Used the body mount screws for the tender, printed a block of ABS around all the obstructions and also filled in the rear beam of the tender. I didnt drill and tap the frame to mount the kadee.  I used heat set inserts so the load of the whole train wasn't reliant on small screws hanging onto the plastic. A fairly easy one to do. Kinda surprised lionel didnt just supply a mount with these.

That’s an incredible difference!…..very clean work!…..how do those inserts work? Do you just heat them up and force them in?…..

They have a slight taper and knurling on them. They press in with a soldering iron. There’s a “tool”/tip for each size, but a pointed tip works just the same.  Once they’re in, the plastic cools around it and locks it in.
