In today's Washington Post, the "Kids Post" was about Lionel Trains.  The reporter, Raymond M. Lane, interviewed Joshua Lionel Cowen's granddaughters, Amy and Cathy Saypol, so much of it was their reminiscing about their grandfather "Josh" including visiting him at the Lionel showroom.  But there was also a sketch of the history of Lionel and places to see model trains in the Washington area (none of which are Lionel products as far as I know):  The U. S. Botanic Garden, Union Station, and Brookside Gardens.  The first two are near the Capitol while Brookside Gardens is in Wheaton, Maryland.

The article mentions that today Lionel produces over 300 miles of track each year.  It would be interesting to know how that breaks down between FasTrack, 0, 027, and the miscellaneous track systems like plastic G gauge that Lionel makes.
