turntable

Received the Korber Roundhouse from Rich and the Millhouse Studio Turntabe from Al this past month......Being recently retired and finally having some free time to once again invest time in this wonderful hobby, I started to expand my modest layout with these two new additions.

I was very pleased with the build quality and the communication I experienced with Rich and Al.  Thank you both for all the help you gave me on this project!  Being a newbie, I just wanted to say I appreciate all the great info that appears in these post and hope I can achieve a layout that is on some level comparable to the ones I have seen on this forum.

Thanks, Pete

You can handle a lot of engines on a TT that is 28".  This older Diamond Scale has 26 1/2" of bridge track.

Another concern with the Korber 304 and smaller TT's is the fan pattern of the tracks. It works well with (4) stalls as pictured but the outside (2) tracks, centered in the doors are not centered in the bays. They are closer to the side walls.  Add a couple more stalls and the problem is more pronounced.  A larger Korber 304, (6) stalls and more, works best with a 30 to 34" TT. with out curving the tracks.  Rich has design information on the Korber website.  Additional information related to older Bowser TT's

True....but as Rich indicated on his website, the further you place the roundhouse from the turntable, even in a 3-4 stall kit, the less you need to bend the tracks.  I believe 16 inches from roundhouse to turntable is optimal for no bending of track, if you have the room.  But as Mike CT posted consult the diagram on Rich's website.   Rich even provides a nice template in the kit so you can get an idea how much room you need.

With the Diamond Scale TT this is the track layout with about 12" between the edge of the TT and the doors of the Korber 304 house.   Note the left track parallels the outside wall and is not in the center of the bay, wider gap between windows.  Tracks are set straight from the center of the TT and center of the door opening.

The next track to the left has a bend in it.

Both Rich and Al will work with you on this.  Keep in mind the combination of a TT and RH is a fair amount of space and there is some planning involved. The diorama pictured at the beginning of this thread is an excellent example of how to put an RH and TT in a small space.   Mike CT

Pete,

That is a very nice scene that you made.  I have limited space and will most likely go for the smallest TT----the Millhouse TT looks great.   What is the footprint for this scene, front to back?

On my layout the length of the approaching track,TT size, and engine house length are somewhat limited.  I would like to be able to approximate what you did.

Hi Norm

i just measured out the dimensions of my Korber RH for you.  It is as follows:

If you order the extra stall like I did, the dimensions of the RH increase to 40" wide x 30" long.  I utilized gar grave flex track inside the RH.

The length of track from the RH door openings to the Millhouse TT is 8 inches......(that distance can be reduced further but you will need to bend the track further inside the RH). The TT is 28"

The whole layout has been placed on a 75" long x 52" wide 3/4 " plywood board.

Note the Millhouse TT wall is 1 1/2" high..."using 3/4 " plywood I needed to use 3/4" wood shims To make it flush to the top of the layout.

Hope this helps

Pete
