Picked this up recently. To my surprise the motor was replaced with a Pittman 9433. I can’t believe it fits. The gearbox was pretty stiff which led to the discovery gelled lithium grease. Heard that red lithium can become a stiff paste. First time I’ve encountered it. Now repacked with Lubriplate Aero grease and it runs great.

Hi,
Congratulations on your success. Where can I buy Lubriplate Aero grease?
Thanks,
Ed
Ed,
I found lubriplate Aero by a google search leading to a distributor in CA. I think that it was about $10. Enough grease for probably 500 locomotives is my guess.
I think amazon sells it.
I did a few IHB’s back in the late 90’s to early 2000’s. Can’t say for certain, but that might’ve been one of them, ….I always did that braid twist. If it goes to the headlight, it might’ve been one of them……9433’s fit fine in them….the IHB 0-8-0 3 cylinder is a monster…..back then, the only grease I had was either white or tan lithium……to be sure by now, it dried up,….

Pat, yep the twisted wire goes to the headlight. I have three of these KTM IHB locos and this one is by far the best running. This loco is so interesting 3 cylinders and a tender boost truck.
Hey when can I send you my Lionel mogul. I just want the drivers 2-railed and quartered, I can handle the rest. You can keep the electronics.

Pat,
Thanks for the reply and not forgetting about the motors. I will send an email to confirm more specifics.
