Had a great visit to my local " Train Store " for a look see and first visit in many years. Employees were very polite and helpful and I had a great time.  ( Train people are great people   I spoke to their train repairman and explained I wanted to upgrade to the best oil and grease they had for my trains. I explained the couple of Lionel/Williams engines I owned and one I was getting for Christmas.

He very confidently snatched two lubes off the display of various Labelle products. A #106 grease and #108 oil.  The PTFE grease seems perfect. But the 108 oil says for all " HO,N,and Z scale" and is about the consistency of water in the bottle ( did not open ). So my question is:  Is this man a Lionel repair genius and the thin 108 is actually a better choice than ( I imagine ) a thicker number? Or did he accidentally grab and hand me the wrong item. I kept the receipt and I am sure I could return it for the correct one if need be. Please advise. And thank you!

The Labell O Gauge kit comes with 102 (thicker) gear lubricant, 106 Grease (for gear boxes) and 107 medium oil for wheels, axles, armatures and such.

108 is a little lighter than 107, but isn't worth getting upset over and will be adequate for most O gauge applications.

I have transitioned away from the Labelle kit as my volume of usage makes it expensve. I use Red n Tacky #2 and Mobile 1 Synthetic 5W30.

Sorry, will do that. Still learning proper Forum rules.

Don't make an apology my friend. The O-27/high rail section is a dumping ground for ALL SUBJECTS. People totally dis regard placing subjects in the proper places as OGR has organized. They do it because they get more attention here. So back on point- any quality light weight oil will work fine for you. Have a great time in the hobby. Nick
