Just received my new Legacy 990 system (2014) and am wondering about Lash Ups using (non Legacy) TMCC engines vs (true) Legacy Engines. Can someone elaborate a bit about the differences or will TMCC engines even work with this feature....have not tired yet and do not (yet) own any Legacy engines.

I've had very poor results with TMCC/Legacy MU configurations, but multiple Legacy or PS/2 MU configurations tend to work very well.

 

If you're going to try with TMCC locomotives, turn off any cruise control and then run them separately using the same numbers a foot apart on the track.  If one is noticeably faster than the other, you'll probably have problems.

FYI "Lash-up" is a toy train term used by one manufacturer to describe "consists". Its use is looked down upon by some of the more prototypically minded. Drives um nuts (namely our host Rich). The fact your instructions use the term is of little consolation, it still drives um nuts. Fair warning!

LOL... Actually the above picture is a pun on the word Lashup...

My preference is to never mix the two. I would run through a few set ups using the legacy instruction guide and see what works the best!
