Do you like to add a little humor to your layout? A funny sign, Business name, or an unusual attraction?
Would you recommend it?
Maybe you’re a serious Scale Modeler, and think there is no place for humor on a well constructed layout?

If you have any pictures or ideas that tickled your funny bone…please share.

A couple examples of  “Roadside America”  maybe you have went a few miles out of your way to see something  funny or strange…I know I have.

Thanks for Looking

Frank Ellison was the master at tongue-in-cheek names for places on his layout.  There were dozens of cute place names that would bring a smile to faces of visitors.  Places like:  Al K. Hall Distilleries,  Laydee-Zunder Warehouse, Aboo Peak mountain or a hydroelectric power plant on a river callled "Dodd Dam".

I've picked up a few including: "Pheedom and Chowke" Food Distributor and a Electrical Supply House constructed on the rear side of my control panel called:  "Schortz and Sparx Company.  Why not have a little fun with your layout?

Nice Work c.Sam…pretty cool!

LOL ..Boxcoulper

Burma Shave…Love it - Old School Texting while driving.    If I had a Modern Day layout I would consider this scene.  And I wouldn’t be Joking!!

I think a Crop Circle is something that would be amusing, and perhaps a little funny too..

It would not be to hard to do? I think it would be as easy as Pi….lol

Thanks for posting some good Ideas everyone!

To give proper credit, this is from the Pittsburgh Independent Hi-Railers modular layout.  This module was built and is owned by Dave Neumann.

There was a nice thread on humorous vignettes this past summer. Search the forum. Most have something cool if you look at the detail.

I like the crop circle idea, maybe on a backdrop to save space...

Currently I collect lego or similar mini-figures to use on the layout.  I have a few Super Mario characters made by knex, and just yesterday picked up a couple versions of Doctor Who.  These figures are a little big, but they are meant to be toys so it really doesn't bother me.  I am still waiting to find a Tardis about the right size.  These may be more fanciful than "roadside attraction".  Once Iget something more permanent going I hope to add a Pagoda.  This would be to emulate the real Pagoda above Reading PA.

A note to a buddy.

Someone has to throw the switch before a duplicating ray can work!

Lots of flashing on the receiving end too....

I will eventually make a straw vaudeville hat, and a bowler here. A tux jacket would be cool.(paper molding?)

The thought of another car full of cloned wabbits, with all the different hats, has reared its head with a WWII helmet, and a witches hat being found first!

Oh yea! this is funny too
