The return loop/staging tracks are completed and the second DCC booster
with auto reverse has been connected to the wiring.  I now have two DCC
boosters with 3 zones operating the layout.  The auto reverse function works
well when turning trains on the reverse loop.  The staging tracks will hold
a 27 car freight headed by 4 FT diesels and a 12 car CA Zephyr passenger
train with 4 F3 diesels with room to spare.   One of the tracks in the helix
can also be used as staging for 2 more trains.  Now I can start building the
second turn of the helix.  After that comes the tunneling through the wall
and bench work and trackage in the adjoining room which will connect the
west end of Helper yard with the summit at the top of the helix.  This will
be the westbound ruling grade on the layout at 2.4%.

Attached is the plan for my "Rio Grande O Scale Division" now under construction.  Very loosely based on the D&RGW from Helper, Utah up Soldier Summit.  Double track main and two sets of twin tunnels as on the prototype.   Gives me the added bonus of running Utah Ry coal trains with Alco RSD 4/5s.  Overall dimensions 34’ x 24’.  Minimum mainline radius is 60” on outer main.  Best I could do and still maintain adequate aisles.  Wish I could have made it at least 68” radius.
