Dave,

I never did selfies either until recently. I noticed that virtually everyone under 30 takes part in this peculiar art form. My kids are shocked that Dear Old Dad even knows what a Selfie is. I will send them my Layout Selfie today. I'll get text messages that everyone is Laughing Out Loud but later today, one of them will stop by to see the new Polar Railroad Snowplow and talk about trains for little bit. Selfies are Common Ground. Just another bridge between the generations. It's OK to look ridiculous every now and then.

A "Selfie" is just a picture that you take of yourself. Generally you hold the camera/cell phone at arms length with the lens pointed at you and snap a photo. It is difficult to frame the shot because you can't see through the view finder, it's just a random aiming of the camera. Newer cell phones come with a feature that allows you to see where the lens is pointed. It makes the screen of the camera look like a mirror. This has allowed for better shot composition and set off the "Selfie" craze among young people. They send each other pictures with no accompanying words because the background tells the message: "I'm at a concert" "I'm at the baseball game" "I just met this famous person" etc. or the Selfie could be a question: "Guess where I am". In my Selfie that starts this Topic the message is: "I'm spending my day playing with this custom Polar Express Snow Plow that I recently finished and have added to my layout." Everybody's face, regardless of age looks funny in a Selfie. That's part of the charm. It's intentionally self-deprecating.

Ask a young person to help you..it will give you an excuse to show them your layout. The next generation of Hobbyists have to come from somewhere.

BTW, I didn't realize they did a Polar RR snowplow, or did you paint it yourself? If the latter, what color did you use & where can one get it?

I painted it myself with paint from my LHS. In order to provide better detail, I've started a separate thread for this answer. See: https://ogrforum.com/t...ad-snow-plow-project
