LC 2.0 Controller Issues

Wow!  Henning's has sold a bunch of these, and I even have a couple.  They hang around for months with batteries in them, I've never had anything like that happen.  That sounds like bad batteries and not the remote.  Even if you short an alkaline battery, it shouldn't get hot enough to start bubbling.

What brand are these batteries?

Had it happen with Kirkland (costco) and energizer.

I understand the Kirkland (aka Duracell), but I've had really good luck with the Energizer batteries, that's what I use in most of my stuff if I'm not using rechargeable batteries.

Looking at the battery box design in the Universal Remote, it looks close to impossible to short the batteries, the only thing that could cause something like that.  That's the only external force that could cause batteries to overheat, and usually they don't go too crazy.  I'm assuming the remote was working, so it can't have an internal short and still function.
