My son and I arrive in Norfolk this weekend for the upcomming 42nd annual convention at the Marriott Waterside hotel.  It rained this weekend, so there has been a drop in temperature.  If you are parking at hotel, please make sure you park in the parking structure directly accross the the street  from the main hotel entrance.   All hotel guests should get their parking ticket validated at the hotel registration desk.  The LCCA has made arrangements for free parking in that lot for convention attendees that are hotel guests.

We are looking forward the President Devito's presidential reception tonight.  Let's have some fun this week!

Hi Al, I hope all is good at the convention and please extend my best wishes to Dennis.

I have one quick question; will the new modular layout standars be announced this week and when will they be on the LCCA's web site?

In any case, have a great time Al and say hello to all for me.

Mario,

I will thanks.  I wish you were here, we are having a great tIme!  People enjoyed the train rides and dinner boat cruise today.  A big hit was the surprise gift from Norfok & Southern.  They gave all of the tour conventioneers a set of Norfolk Southern Railroad road name pins.

As far as the LCCA/Lionel Modular layout specifications, I don't know when or how soon we can post on our website.  We are an all volunteer organization.  Soe of the comembers members have other jobs.  So, we will try to finalize and then write a complete standard.  We will try to get it out, as soon as possible.

Al:

I have had a great time at the convention so far. The NS train Trip yesterday was fantastic and the NS folks could not have been better. The extra gift from them when we left was unexpected and very well received by all.

While I am unable to attend today due to a work commitment I'll see you all tomorrow for the seminars. Great job by everyone involved.

Brad

It's great to hear everyone had a good time on the NS excursion.  With my NS dealings over the years, you can expect a class act.  I regret missing the excursion; however,  I've had the opportunity to ride behind just about everything except the NS F-units and that time will come.  My wife and I are arriving on Thursday as we wanted to catch the later activities at the convention.

Wish I was at the Convention but unfortunately Apple hasn't come out with an App yet to allow me to be two places at once. LOL...

Let me provide a little tease to what I think is going to be an amazing Modular Product making its debut at the LCCA Convention in a few days. Here's some process shots of the modules... Enjoy!

I'm happy to read that everything is going so beautifully at the convention. Boy Norflok Southern has gone from my lest loved flag to I gotta get me a few "Black Ponies" for the MJM RR. Between the Heritage Serries and the way they are treating our LCCA members I have become a big fan.

Hi "Train Dame", I love what you are doing with the modular plan. My God, even a guy like me can fit two or three of those units in my trunk and we are in business.

Lou Caponi can tell ya that if I had to dream up a system we would need a tractor-trailer to move it.

One suggestion though, think height adjustable legs.

Extend my thanks everyone for their input on this, it looks like a home-run.

To Al and everyone who played a part in todays LCCA events in Norfolk, VA.

I had a great time at the LCCA convention today.  Even though I am not member of the LCCA I was continuously welcomed and extended admission to all the layouts, trading hall, the club store and enjoyed some interesting conversations with the Lionel reps.  The volunteers working the membership table were very friendly, helpful and informative; they also made a very nice sales pitch for the LCCA (not pushy but informative).  - By the way did I win the train set? -   Larry from Diecast Direct was also a champion for LCCA, thanks Larry the new cars look great on my layout!  I made some great new train friends and visited with some train folk I haven't seen in a while.  I have always enjoyed networking with and learning from fellow train enthusiasts through the TCA, ECRR and OGR forum and it appears the LCCA is another valuable resorce.  So thanks to the outstanding personal efforts of everyone there today, you may soon have a new member.

You all made my 3 hour drive to Norfolk very well worth while; GREAT JOB!!

At the last minute I decided to make the trip to Norfolk Saturday to see the public displays at the LCCA convention. I'm glad I made the trip. The Lionel displays, the modular layouts, and the buy/sell area were great. I was really interested in the lionel's upcoming modular layout product. Here are some more detailed pictures:

This appears to be the kit version of a module with all its parts.

028

Wiring underneath. Electrical connectors between modules appear to be automotive connectors of some type.

Closeup of the track locator jig.

032

Close up of the rotary locks that hold the modules together. These fit in the sides of the modules. The allen wrench is inserted through the top of the module. Rotating the wrench makes the lock work sort of like the sash lock on a double hung window. I wish I had taken a closeup picture of them mounted in the module.

034

The legs were way too short.

035

Wood used looked like cabinet grade plywood. They even painted the tops with a clear polyurethane.

LCCA's 42nd Annual Convention in Norfolk VA.

We just completed our successful 42nd Annual LCCA convention this past week at the Marriott Waterside Hotel in Norfolk VA. Thank you to all of the LCCA members, their families and the visitors who attended and participated in this fun, informative and Lionel train filled week. Convention Managers "Captain" Bob Carter, "Captain Chaos" Lou Caponi and the entire volunteer, convention team worked endlessly to make this convention a great, fun and entertaining experience.thank you.
Al K.

I just got home.  The LCCA Convention was great. The modular layout pieces turned out to be even better than I thought they would.  They are definitely OGR editorial  material and we have some fine images to share with you from several sources. Also got some other great ideas for upcoming stories in O Gauge Railroading.  Doesn't get any better than that for an Editor.

The LCCA tours covered everything from 400 year old mansions, to modern aquariums, to S gauge layouts that are also a happening, and the Navy jet strike fighter base at Oceania.  All that and lots of train too!

Did eleven hours in the car on the way back from Norfolk to Poland, Ohio.  More details when I wake up.

Ed H:

Lionel will produce a Legacy N&W J with passenger cars for the Pocohontas passenger train.   A SP tank train set headed by a bloody nose SD40T-2.  Two packs of the newly announced scale auto racks to match the road names already cataloged.  A remote controlled James and Percy to go along with the remote controlled Thomas in the Christmas catalog.  James and Percy will be on different frequencies than Thomas.  I had to leave before the seminar was over.  Maybe someone else can offer some more news.  Also I like the idea of the modules.  They looked great.

Also thanks to everyone from the LCCA and Lionel for making this a great convention!!

Ed,

Thank you for your participation and support during our 42 Annual Convention in Norfolk VA.  I am glad you a had great time.  My son Vincent and I had a blast!   The LCCA will be posting a video of your S- gage presentation after our volunteer editor returns from his vacation.  We need to cut the video into smaller sections, so we can post on both the LCCA and OGR's websites.  Thanks again, and I hope you can catch up on your sleep.  I know I need some more.  Thanks again for all you do.

Al K.
