Is there some reason that Lionel (and K Line) can't package smoke fluid with a set that doesn't leak all over the inside of the package? This can't be incredibly difficult since the rest of the world seems to package fluids and I have almost never seen any evidence of leakage in the big stores and supermarkets.

Cheap? Don't care? Want you to buy more?
Pick your reason.
I haven't had any Lionel smoke bottles leak. Are they packaging the smoke fluid differently now?
I have had the rubber eyedropper top on some other brands of smoke fluid deteriorate to the point the eyedropper is no longer usable.

Never experienced a leaky Lionel smoke container.
Chuck is referring to those small tubes with the plastic screw tops packaged with the sets that sometimes DO leak.
A friend of mine says that he never had it happen with MTH. Is that true? Is Mike on top of it more than the Lionel administration?
Wow! we're really digging around to try and find rant topics now! Where are those spring catalogs already?!!!!!!
I have never seen a bottle of fluid in a sealed bottle leak. However it is possible if the bottle didn't seal properly. Eyedropper bottles do not come with new engines. If you keep the cap on the eyedropper a little loose fluid is less likely to draw into the rubber top.
Maybe. But a friend of mine bought a new set the other day and the smoke container in the set had leaked out leaving just a drip left in the container. He has to go back to the store and buy some fluid to try the smoke features.
I had quite a few containers that I accumulated from sets and engines and while about 20% of them leaked, I saved the rest that were dry. I stored them in a plastic container and found that after a year or so, most of them were leaking.
Just wondering who/what was the thinking on packaging these.
All my sealed smoke fluid tubes originally packed with any of my MPC steamers are apparently empty. The fluid seems to have evaporated without a trace.
I have never had a Lionel smoke fluid container leak.
I've picked up some 8-10 year old TMCC locomotives that are NIB, the sealed smoke fluid bottles are in a small bag and still sealed. I've never seen one that leaked, all of them have had fluid in them when I checked.
90% leaked into small sealed bag.
I knew of a Lionel dealer that no longer ordered Lionel smoke fluid because of those problems. Maybe they need to put the caps on tighter, who knows.
Never had a leak.
