Any Legacy system should be able to upgrade to latest revision.

thanks jim this is my first go at a legacy system and didn't want to buy a out dated one now I see its updateable
Yep, and as long as the Legacy system is at 1.3 or later, you can do it all at home with writeable modules. You just need the Legacy System Utility and at least one Legacy Writable Module. If you're handy with your soldering iron, you can create the writable module from the useless blue ones that come with the system: Free Black Modules for Legacy
Contrary to Lionel, my system was 1.2 and I upgraded straight to 1.6. Lionel sent me 1.3 and 1.6 but I couldn't get 1.3 to install. I gave 1.6 a shot and it took in the remote and base. Kind of strange but it worked.
The only thing 1.2 couldn't do was write the black modules, that was in 1.3. If you have a program module, then you can go from 1.2. If you needed to create the module, then you needed 1.3.
