Legacy Base and Computer Issues

Have you just connected the serial/usb cable directly to the base without any extra V cable?

I did try a single serial cable with no luck.  I didn't connect the serial/usb adapter directly to the base.  I'll give that a try.

The cable from the serial port to the Legacy base should be a I:1 cable and have at least pins 2, 3, and 5 connected.

I've use this same usb/serial adapter and serial cable to update my DCS system before.  Not sure what pins are connected.  I'll have to test it.

If it works for the DCS system, it should work for the Legacy.

Do you believe it could be an issue with the base?

A little more information...the Windows 8.1 system is 64bit so is the win 7 on this computer.  The older computer is win 7 32bit.  Not sure if any of that matters.

Are you sure your serial port adaptor is configured to the com port the base thinks? If the adaptor is configured for com 4 and the software for com 3 you'll get that error.

I tried all the ports it lists as available.  No luck.  I'm going to give Lionel a call.

Well here's an update:

Before I had a chance to call Lionel yesterday I decided to try out my new Legacy 2 truck Shay I had just received.  Well it made it about half way around the track and remote went completely dead.  I removed the batteries, checked them and they were alright.  Try it again and got nothing.  Put new batteries in and still nothing.  I guess this was all a part of a systematic failure.

Anyway, called Lionel service and it's all going back for repair.

Actually, they did not. All of the data is in the base, not in the remote.

Regardless, it sounds as if you did, indeed, get great service form Lionel!  

Sorry for my ignorance.  I'm new to the Legacy stuff.  From what I can tell the Legacy Utility only edits the engine data but it has to be cleared using the remote.  That's what I ended up doing.  Then I re-entered the engines. It took some time but all is right now.

I connected it to the DCS system and it is all playing together as it should.
