Our CLUB Layout ca be controlled By TMCC & LEGACY.  Saturday Morning I tested the Legacy Control and it functioned properly!  Went to Lunch and when I returned it wasn't!  Found three Junior Members trying to use the  System to run their Legacy Engines. When they handed the CAB2 to me , this is what was happening.  When you Turned the Velocity Knob (Speed Control Knob), the graph on the CAB2 wouldn't move either way. The only way we could get the Engine to run was using the "Preset" Speeds, ie 5, 20, 35, etc. mph buttons. Turned off the Base and CAB2 & turned them back on, NO change. YES, the Train Brake was turned all the way down!!! The Graph moved with the different Speed Icons only. Also if you tried to Scroll thru the different Engine, that didn't work as well. I assumed it was the CAB2, so brought it home to test on my LEGACY Layout! GUESS WHAT; no problem what so ever with the CAB2 . I don't know what those Kids did to screw up that Base Unit.  Unfortunately I live 60 Miles away from our Club, so can't do anymore testing (with the Base) until next Saturday.

ANY IDEAS???

John & Marty,

Thanks for the Reply. I was so surprised when I got home and the CAB2 worked flawlessly on my Layout. Unfortunately, I'm 60miles from the Club Layout & won't be able to do any further testing until the Weekend. I will take my Base Unit and swap it out, to see if I get the same condition. I have been involved with Legacy from the beginning (as you both know) and have never seen anything like this. Don't know what those Kids did, but I aim to find out.  I even took the Batteries out of the CAB2 and reinstalled them, but no luck. I kept getting the same condition!!

Will keep you guys posted!!

I am going to make a trip to our Club Modular Layout next Saturday to finish Trouble Shooting it! The CAB2 worked flawlessly at home. I will take my LEGACY Base to interchange it with the one there. If the problem is the BASE Unit, I will have to return it to Lionel for repair after the 8th of July. To achieve this , and keep our Layout working with the TMCC Base, I will have to take the LEGACY BASE out of the Equation. I have a Lionel 14192 Cable to connect the TMCC Base directly to the TPC's. Just to be sure, I wanted to identify the Red (Data) & Green (Com) leads in that cable !! Does anyone have the "LEAD ASSIGNMENTS" on the PINS coming out of the TMCC base Unit??? I want to make sure the DATA& COM coming out of the BASE Unit is on these TWO Leads before I connect it to the TPC's. Hope this makes some kind of sense!

Please advise,

Fred

I'm guessing something in the CAB2 is flaky and now it's working.  The obvious question, does another remote work, either a CAB2 or a CAB1L?

Well I brought the Legacy Base home and did some extensive testing on my Layout! Marty & GRJ were correct!  It is the CAB2. The only problem is it doesn’t happen all the time!  One time you turn the System on it fails ( turning the velocity knob does nothing) and the next time it works fine! When this happens, I exchange the Club CAB2 with one of mine & everything works like it should! One thing I noticed is “ALL “ the other functions on the CAB work, but the Velocity Knob. I have even taken the Batteries  out of it and put them back in and the “Trouble “ is still there !  Sometimes this failure will happen while running the Engine .  Will have to wait for Lionel Service to open up (Aug. 1st) to get an RA!  Meanwhile we will have to run the Legacy Engines with the CAB1’s.   Thank goodness there are only a few Members that run Legacy Engines ! O well !!!

I recently had a CAB2 problem. When I powered up the Legacy base and CAB2, the CAB2 would go blank whenever I pressed any button and then it would power back up again. The throttle knob worked and the engine  would run. Then the CAB2 started beeping erratically. The batteries were new, but I removed them from the CAB2 in hopes of rebooting it. I had to do this three times before the CAB2 returned to normal. Anyone had this type of problem.

That certainly seems like a Lionel fix is needed for that problem.

You could always take your CAB2 to the club.

I will on the days I’m there!  Usually Lionel wants the Base & CAB2 sent in together, so there won’t be a Base there!!

An update:  After I had proven the Problem was in the CAB2, I decided to leave the Base connected to my Layout. A couple of days ago while I was running a Train, all of a sudden it quit.  The Blue “Lionel” light in the front of the ZWL was flickering.  Then I saw what was happening!  The Legacy Base (Clubs) had quit working.  All the lights were out. I double checked the Wall Wart Power Supply and it was working.  The Base had completely 🛑 stopped working!!

Kudos to Lionel!!!  I knew they were going to start taking requests for RA’s yesterday.  I figured I would have a problem getting through, but I didn’t. I waited for an available service person for less than a minute!!!  I was Given an RA #, and I was on my way!! What an improvement over there previous service!

Thank You Dean!!  Kudos to you and your Staff !!!

Sincerely,

Fredstrains
