can a new Lionel RTR remote control chief loco be controlled by my legacy CAB 2 controller?
Replies sorted oldest to newest
No.
LionChief can only be controlled by the enclosed remote. LionChief Plus can be controlled by the enclosed remote or conventionally. Lionchief & LC Plus engines can CO-EXIST on the same layout with TMCC/Legacy engines. LC controlled by the LC remote and TMCC/Legacy controlled by the CAB
Can't you control conventional trains with Legacy by controlling the track voltage? If so, you could kinda control RailChief Plus with Legacy, right?

the question was not about Lionel chief plus. unless the op left off the plus.
I see this plus and non plus remotes having all kinds of people confused
You can control track voltage with Legacy, but need to and a TPC or PowerMaster. I think the original LionChief engines you had to have a remote, but I think the ability to run conventional was restored in the Lionchief+ engines
What about turining the LionChief remote all the way up and using CAB-2 to vary track voltage ?
Are the new sets this year Plus?

without the (+)plus this would not be possible.
LionChief and LionChief Plus. Talk about muddying the waters further in relation to conventional operation.

I beg to differ here. If I put my remote control Thomas on the track and turn the knob on the remote to full, I can control the speed (Albeit very coarsely.) by using my CAB-2 to adjust the track voltage from my TPC.
It's not a very good way of doing things, but it can be done at a pinch.

that does not seem possible as my Thomas remote runs on 18 volts to the track and voltage is not varied by either remote. what you are doing might damage the unit.
