On Lionel's 6-11117 Atlantic. It lost all chuffing so I replaced the cherry switch. It now chuffs like it every other chuff,chuff, no chuff, chuff. Also it keeps chuffing for 5 seconds after it stops.
Does anyone know if you hold the cherry switch closed is it suppose to keep chuffing or does it need the momentary contact action? I did not find any loose, pinched etc wires or loose plugged on the pc boards.
Any Ideas?

I'd adjust the microswitch, that seems to be where the issue lies. It should make and break, I don't know what the locomotive does if you hold it closed, but I can't believe it continues to chuff, what would happen if you stopped with it closed?
The adjustment of the tiny arm that moves the switch plunger is critical. It sounds like you are right on the edge of either not consistnetly opening, or not consistently closing.
I have a cabforward that had a very strange and inconsistent chuff. A tiny adjustment and it has been fine since.

That's the most common issue when the chuffs get flaky, so it's always the first place I look. Truthfully, the switches rarely go bad, they just need adjustment most of the time.
