Legacy hand held Icon issue (-/+)

When the +/- keys on the Legacy remote are shown (engine type TMCC), they appear in the 8 & 9 numeric button positions. The crew and tower chatter effects are always on the 2 and 7 keys. Maybe I am missing something in your explanation, but it seems that the sound features are working as they should.

Hi Rudy,2 and 7 keys do show up and activate crew talk and tower talk as expected.- and + are also there in position 8 and 9 and also activate crew talk . They do not turn smoke on or off. Now I have been unable to get smoke to operate or marker lights to come on. I have replaced sound board and C08 board. Looks like I will need to send away for repairs as I don’t have experience to diagnose problem.

I'm confused. Since TMCC/Legacy does not read info from this engine for the Cab-2, it just displays what is available from what you have entered, I'd suggest operating it with a Cab1 or Cab1L and then see if the smoke on/off remote control works. How about pictures of what you have entered and what the display looks like?

Ok, finally got smoke to work . Traced problem to loose wire connection to molex plug  on motherboard.

I can turn smoke off and on with Legacy handheld . It works on either cab 1 or tmcc set up. However when selecting -/+ to control smoke crew talk still is activated. Crew talk can still be activated via regular key 2.

I still don’t have front marker lights but I am not going to chase that.

not a big issue, I just never seen this before.

What are the selections in your set up?

The + and - keys send numeric 8 and 9. That should not trigger speech.  If I understand correctly, your locomotive has had a number of circuit boards replaced. Perhaps there is a software mis-match between boards. I'd have it serviced.

The only board replaced was a new C08  replacing factory  installed C07. No other circuit  boards have been played with by me.Other than reseating.

Many of the RS4 boards trigger the garbled cab talk when you activate the smoke, perhaps this is what you're describing? 

That's interesting--I don't remember that but it is possible that it was so long ago I have forgotten. With all recent product, there should be no dialog activation from the 8 or 9 keys, but Gunrunner John is a reliable source! Maybe this is working as originally intended on this older locomotive. If I had a comparable engine on hand, I'd test it, but alas, I do not. 

Rudy, some of the old RS4 stuff did the garbled speech when you turn smoke on/off.  I have a D9LM-C RS4 and a C420LM_E labeled RS4 sound chip that do that, but three or four others don't have the crew talk with the smoke controls.  Don't know why some added it and others didn't.  Truthfully, I always thought it was stupid that the garbled crew talk popped up when I turned on and off smoke, but not much I could do about it.

I agree, doesn't seem appropriate to mix those two functions. I don't think we did that for very long.

I have an older Alco S2 and a Kline RS3.  Both have older TMCC setups and both have the garbled cab talk when you press + or - on the controller.  Nothing is wrong; it’s just the way they are.  

Great. Thank you GUNRUNNERJOHN. I had never encountered the sounds before so I was wondering about it. Most of my stuff is newer. The locomotive was catalogued in 2000 so it is an older model albeit great detail. I will leave it alone as it is the way it is suppose to be.Al B

I have older TMCC locomotives that do this as well. My Class A from 2002 does this.

Since he's running a TMCC locomotive, that's probably good.  If it were a Legacy screen, it wouldn't work!

The  screens are cab  1 and tmcc settings on the Legacy handheld. The unit in question is an older tmcc locomotive. I did not suggest the screens were Legacy. I was referencing the handheld.
