Legacy ipad app

Will the ipad be able to be hooked up to the base and do the software updates at some point? I am wanting a laptop or ipad and cant afford both. So if ipad can do this job i would rather get that as I can use it on the layout also. Maybe to early to know if this can be done but thought I would ask anyway thanks!

Jon alluded that at some point you would be able to update with the iPad, but nothing has demonstrated yet.

Once the iPad client comes out we will know more
