I have a 150 sq. ft. Layout. I have 7 engines and 10 switches. The layout had been working just fine for over a year. Now I am having throttle issues. I cleared all the data from the cab 2. I program one of my engines. When I power it up and move it out the train moves and then the brake sounds start and the engine slows to a stop. If I turn the throttle wheel the rpm sounds on the engine increase but the speed does not. The direction control doesn't work either. All the sounds work fine. Horn, bell, crew talk and so on. The train brake is off. It doesn't matter which engine I choose. They all do the same thing. The base and cab-2 had the upgrade to 1.5. I reverted back to the version that came with the system and it still acts the same. I don't think it is a communication issue because I can activate the sounds just fine. The switches work by remote also.

It's the brake/boost rocker switch. Exercise it and try to blow it out with canned air or a little contact cleaner.
Do you see the arrow down under the engine number like this?

Something spill on it? Or just corrosion?
No spills. I worked with the switch and now I have boost instead of brake.....I think the switch needs replaced.
Gsgood - I have the exact same problem with one of my Cab2 controllers. I assume you had to take the Cab2 apart to get to the back of the switch. Anything to watch out for if I have to do the same thing? I have used compressed air to blow out the area around the switch and will see if that has any effect.
Well the cab 2 is still having intermittent problems. I have contacted Lionel. When you take the screws out to open the unit make sure the cover for the module port is open. Lay the unit face down and remove the back. When you open it there is a wire that goes to the battery compartment that is easily disconnected. Like I said, I am still having problems.
