I glued flat Lego pieces on a flatcar so he could build things and then run them around the layout. He had a ball. A lesson I learned. I glued 3 separate flats but failed to abut them so Lego pieces do not connect across the flat pieces. Alternatively, I should have used pieces to attach the separated flat pieces then glued the down.

I was hoping I could find a picture but...

A number of years back, I built a set of lego flat cars.  (for my grandnephew!) I bought the flat green plates that you build on and cut them to the size of the flat car.  That made the whole surface of the car lego-able.

You can double stick tape the plates to the cars
