Good afternoon all,

In my conversions of the FrankenALCos; [RS-11 + RS-27 = RS-32] and [C630 x 75% = C430], I have noticed in my research that I will need to lengthen the RS-11 donor frames by ~1" and ~1.5" between the truck centers, respectively.

My first thought is to purchase another frame from Lionel, and graft it in.  But, I'd like to see what others have done.

Can you share your techniques for doing this?

Thanks,

Mario

The frames are made of mild steel. It solders easily with an active flux. You could use the bottom of a coffee can or similar. Cut it longer than needed, bend the sides like the original frame for rigidity and use a lap joint. Fill the gap with another piece of steel or use the fuel tank to cover the gap.
