I was assembling my track cleaning train to polish the rails and pick up debris...  and that got me wondering, what does everyone else’s track cleaning set-up look like?

Here’s my usual track cleaning line-up:

-Centerline track cleaner (wet roller)

-Northeast trains track cleaner (drying duty)

-Homemade magnet car (metal filings/debris removal)

Here’s what the magnet car picked up on this run:

I like the magnet idea.   I think I'll make one of those.

Have fun.

Ron,

Mine is made out of a wooden well car, with a couple large (removable) rare earth magnets set inside and affixed to a handle.   Set up as such, lifting the magnets out of the car releases the material that was picked up (and the layer of wood between keeps the material from sticking to the magnets)

I’ve also made a magnet car using a Lionel F9 well car (works great) and a Railking Gondola (doesn’t work well, rides too high).   Don’t have a picture of the F9 version as it resides at my old club in LA.
