My wife, from childhood, always liked Lionel's 'General,' she saw from ads.

If, I were able to afford one, I would spend the extra dollars and buy a museum quality crafted 'General.'

I believe, if Lionel did manufacture a 1:48 scale size 'General,' maybe, it would cost as much, or more than a museum quality crafted set.

But, who knows?!!

They should do a set of the 119 and the Jupiter.  Both scale with as many of the "bells and whistles" as possible.  Now that'd be a wonderful set to get, and I'd buy it for sure.  But the question would be which livery for the Jupiter?  I personally prefer the red one over the blue one, even though my favorite color is blue.  I think it has to do with the job I had making 1/4 scale locomotives based off of the Jupiter.  Most of them were more red, and it looked sharp.

Of course, it's unlikely to have Legacy, smoke, swinging bell, smoking whistle and depleting wood load.

Very true.

But if Lionel doesn't step up to the plate, SMR Trains would be the next more likely candidate, even though they prefer to model even earlier 19th century steam.

Personal preferences aside, the blue livery is correct.  The original red one was designed by Disney based upon art, not history.  As something of a historical purist, I hate to see error perpetuated.

Precision scale produced this set back in the '90s.  2-Rail only, very pretty but underpowered and overly delicate.  Very expensive also.

Speaking of expensive, as lots of folks like big models for their big dollars, I wonder how many would be willing to fork over up to $2K per loco to have "all the bells and whistles" on a model which would be maybe 14" long, including tender?
