More Chinese stuff..that’s just great...hopefully the Zamac holds up

@swrr,

On behalf of most of us I thank you for the nice positive response, especially thanking Beth for her support for the hobby and this forum.  She's done very well, as usual.

And then of course I take it you won't be buying anything, from her or any other retailer or manufacturer, since nearly everything's presently made in China.

Mike,

Yep.  Not a big fan from buying from authoritarian regimes, especially in light of Covid.  Not sure I agree with you...lots of stuff made in Korea and Europe.  Have you heard of Marklin? Sellers like the Chinese stuff for one reason only...profit. As I said before...hopefully the Zamac holds up.

Profit? Is that a dirty word? I agree that we could have these trains made elsewhere but tell me where. Estimates I've heard would increase the price of new units at around 50%. Pick your poison. New equipment or old, outdated stuff.

Dick, with respect

Might be ordering a caboose and couple of box cars.
Not being familiar with Atlas O Scale does anyone know how well these will match up size wise to a MTH Railking Camelback 4-6-0?  I’m not a rivet counter but don’t want an obvious mismatch in size/scale.

The MTH Rail King Camelback is scale sized, just not heavily detailed. Steam Era cars will be just fine with it.

Oh, thanks, Matt. "The MTH Rail King Camelback is scale sized, just not heavily detailed."  Years ago I saw the MTH Premier Erie Camelback and went over it, but it was wa-a-ay out of my price range.  I have regretted ever since, and tried to atone for the mistake by buying the MTH RK Erie Triplex and MTH RK L-3 Mohawk.  Now I'm all in a tizzy about the Triplex again. Have you no mercy on an old sucker?

None whatsoever!

I'm kicking myself over a couple of things I didn't buy that are now impossible or cost-prohibitive to get in the secondary market, but there's only so much disposable cash to play with so I troll eBay hoping to find that elusive bargain (found three so far and grabbed them).

Just recently getting back into O gauge I looked at prices of new steam and figured I wouldn’t be buying anything new or used. Luckily the 5 MTH RK steam locos I still had from the late 90s/early 2000s were in great condition. I was happily surprised that parts were still available for the one that didn’t run.
Then a few weeks back I came across the MTH RK CNJ Camelback on the bay and quickly jumped on it.
I always thought that the RK locos were a good looking loco for the price.
Are the MTH RK freight cars also scale sized without the details of the premier cars?

Long answer....but when it comes to Railking, u just have to know what your buying.  Some of the railking freight cars are scale size and and some are "traditional size.....i,e, they match Lionel 6464 box cars, etc, in size and proportion.

I try to denote on our website which cars are "Railking Scale" and which are traditional, or semi-scale size. and some are kind of in the middle.   Most of the Railking Box cars, Reefers, gondolas, tank cars  and flat cars are semi-scale and would match an RK camelback.   Railking passenger cars were made in 2 sizes...50' and 60'    I think the 60' would look better, but I havent personally had the cars next to a RK camelback.

Someone else here probably can give you more precise advice..  Or u might want to go to a train show or shop and look at stuff.    What the manufacturers have made is all over the place, and there are no hard fast rules about what brand is what size, or what has how much detail....

MEC cabooses – Interesting.

Both MAINE CENTRAL cabooses are accurate. 663, all green top and 662 other version with lower logo. Both contain a blocked-out window. Nice to see them as being modeled correctly unlike the other cookie cutter offerings we see by others.

Good eye Atlas, looks like J.W.’s efforts to get it right lives on.

I really could use this one next...
