Great idea and excellent for starter sets but, when they go wrong, are they worth fixing?
I have a Lion Chief Polar Express 1225 Loco that literally ground to a halt yesterday. I dismantled the body from the chassis and disassembled the gear box. The brass gear on the drive wheel axle was worn and the worm gear on the drive shaft had completely disintegrated. I could not determine how to remove the motor and drive shaft from the chassis to see how to replace the drive shaft.
At this point my 1225 needs a new drive shaft and a new geared drive wheel. Does anyone know if these parts are available and if it's even worth repairing this unfortunate problem?
