Has anyone used the Lion Chief guts as a donor to upgrade some other engine? I have upgraded some Williams engines with MTH PS2 donor engine swaps and wanted to know if anyone attempted this in the Lion Chief world.

I’ve done it. I took the guts of a Lionel dinosaur diesel switcher and put it in one of Lionel’s 4-4-2 Atlantic - engine used to be shipped with starter sets in the 1980’s. No features were used, just wanted to see if it would work - it did. I then took the guts from another Dino switcher and put that in an inexpensive RS3 that Lionel used to sell. Worked great as well. However the speaker used in the Dino switcher is small and isn’t very loud. IMO audible but barely.
The LC+ would be a bit trickier as it has the speed control tach on the motor and the "Legacy-like" toothed encoder wheel on the flywheel. That also triggers the chuffs, and the locomotive won't run without it. Other than that, it should be fairly simple to transplant the electronics.
