Ive read about adding different control system to older engines, different brand engines, or just as an upgrade. Has anyone given any thought to installing a LionChief system into a different brand or older engine? Do you think Lionel will ever make the parts needed to do this available? Could use one of those multiple engine controllers with it. Just a thought.

Lionel made TMCC available to Atlas and K-Line in the past (maybe others). Problem is that LionChief and + are meant for the entry-level market, and there aren't many others making entry-level without a control system, pretty much just MTH who has a control system and WBB.
It's doubtful that Lionel will offer LionChief retrofit kits or make the specs available to a third party.

Maybe I could take the stuff out of a couple of the set engines I got at the bargain store for a real deal and put it in a Williams or an MTH .. I reckon the engines would have to have DC motors in them?

I think that this is exactly what Lionel should do, is start selling Lionchief with Bluetooth, upgrade electronics for conventional trains. They could do a base version, and Plus kit with operating couplers etc. Also, there would be separate upgrade kit types for different motor types, so the upgrades could be done for postwar and more recent can motors. They would then sell a ton of thier Lionchief multiple loco remotes, and could monitize thier app for the use of Bluetooth.
Ideally, it would also be setup so that similar locomotives can run in multiple unit consists for diesels and double header steam.
