I’m having an issue with my F3 NYC set. It’s a LionChief Plus 2.0. It dropping the TMCC signal. At first I thought it was the track because it was happening at around the same point on the loop. I switched it over to Bluetooth and there is no issues.

After it drops the connection the Nonpowered A unit still responds to commands.  I put the powered locomotive up on rollers and set it for medium in TMCC mode. It runs for approximately 3 minutes then the headlight flickers and the locomotive stops responding to commands. I have repeated this test three times and the locomotive consistently stops after about three minutes.  Bluetooth operations are completely normal and unaffected. I checked this by turning the Bluetooth on and running the locomotive for five continuous minutes.

what could be going wrong with this locomotive?

The answer: contact Lionel support send it back.

The reason- the tmcc radio receiver is a separate daughter card that is soldered vertically into the main LCP2 board set. As such- the solder joints are a weak point where pulling or pushing on the antenna connector could rip or crack traces. Again the problem is, just even inspecting to find out why you have a problem- could create a much bigger problem.

My point is, you messing with it- opening the shell could make it go from working and then stopping to never working again.
