Lionel 025 Bumper & 50 Gang Car

The bumper of the gang car will go into the center and not activate. If you put a small block of wood in the slot, then you can achieve bump and go.

By the way...was there a prewar Lionel gang car that operated like the #50? While it looks cool, the 025 seems like an odd bumper design.

No pre-war gang car made. I have several of these bumpers but don't use them. They can easily damage an engine pilot crashing into them, especially if the screws are tight to the track.

That's what I was wondering about; it seems these older bumpers would destroy the trains. What as their intended purpose?

I like the look of the 025, so I am going to modify two of them to work with my #50 gang car, as Don suggested above.

I always thought the big opening was so that the old latch couplers could go in the hole, allowing the bumper to stop the car
