So happy to find this forum! My grandson was given an O Scale Lionel Polar Express train for Christmas and the locomotive wheels don't turn. Supposedly it was only used one time but I am having my doubts. I can get it to move a few feet occasionally, but then it stops. Any tricks I can try, maybe lubrication?

First thing to try if your getting power is to clean the wheels and the track real good.
Also, the way they are geared they will not be movable by hand. They have to be under power to turn.
Have you checked to make sure the reverse switch is on?
A little more information will help. It could be a track or transformer problem, too. Are you using the Lionel FasTrack that came with the set? How about the transformer?
Lubrication is a good idea, but not to the extent of suddenly making a misbehaving locomotive like yours run. The problem lies elsewhere.
Check the crosshead guide. Through handling and storage, the guide can be pushed in and the crosshead will jam on the siderod screw.
