I recently obtained a post war #138 water tank with a missing spout. The spout is plastic and is mounted with a steel hinge pin. One end of the pin is flattened to prevent it from passing thru the spout. I cannot see the treatment of the other end of the pin. I did manage to get the pin out. I have a new spout and pin on order. My question is how does the new pin get treated so it stays in place? I could put a dab of glue on it. Any suggestions?

Correction, the hinge pin is brass.
Generally the end of the pin is flatted to keep it from falling out. With a brass pin you should be able to flatten it with a pair of pliers. It only needs to be a fraction larger than the hole.
Thanks
I will let you know how it turns out.
I tried to crimp the end of the new brass pin but even with using a needle nose vise grip, no crimping was observed. The end of the brass pin has a very tiny depression much like a rivet. I used a spring loaded rivet tool to slightly expand the end resulting in a good upset end and good operation of the spout.
I use a hammer and small pin punch to flatten the end of the pin.
