I just bought a lighly used Heliport from my LHS and it works great except for the helicopter only flies about 2 inches off the heliport. Does anyone have any advice or tips for making it fly a little higher? Thanks.

I had a 419 Heliport when I was a kid, and the helicopter used to hit the ceiling!
I had the same problem with the modern remake and Lionel's service dept. told me "that is how it's supposed to operate". They refused to adjust it, etc. End of story. The heli flat car works much better.
I recall a thread last year about the same problem, seems the new safety regs make all spring loading wimpy now.
Try winding it an extra turn if it allows that.
Or call Lionel Tech Support and ask about a stronger spring.
The spring can only be wound so far. I have replaced the springs in all the spools that I fly helicopters from (it's a Grandkid thing).
You need an original Lionel Postwar spring or a Postwar repo. I got a few from parts dealers and some from broken cars.
I bought mine brand new when it came out and mine did the same thing. Get the repro spring from the parts dealers item #3419-26. It works alot better.
