Working on a Lionel 203 engine and here is my dilemma.... engine alone runs well..... new e unit and tests good.. when I connect both together I get no engine function. The engine hums and the E unit does function when I try to engage engine. I checked all connections and they are correct and solid. What am I missing???? Any help would be appreciated.....

I have update my E-unit page to include diagnostic tests for E-unit power flow. It may help.
Here is the wiring diagram.
I had one of these a few weeks ago - same problem. Someone had soldered one of the wires to the wrong lug. Good luck.

I find the easiest way to test an eunit is with a test lamp. With the eunit disconnected from the motor, connect power, 12 volts, to the the outside fingers. That is the black and green wires. Connect a 12 volt light bulb to the inside fingers, the two yellow wires, or in later units the yellow and blue wires. Then operate the eunit. The lamp should go on, then cycle it, the lamps should go off. On, off, on, off, each time it cycles. If this is not the pattern, something is wrong with the eunit.
Thanks to all of you who answered my call for help. I will take your tips to the bench and hopefully be able to the engine running. Thanks again and stay safe........Joe
Sounds like wires going to motor are loose. Blue and yellow go to outside connections. Green to ground on motor. Black wire on eunit goes to power. Pretty simple.
