The train museum's operating F3 has a tired motor. I'd like to drop in a can motor and bridge rectifier, as it only needs to go forwards. Is there a drop-in replacement for the horizontal F3 motor?
Thanks!

I'm not aware of a drop in replacement as you are requesting. You may be able to adopt a power truck from something like a 6-24535 or 6-34631 but it would be cheaper to rebuild/refresh the horizontal motor.
Timko has drop in motor replacements for vertical motored Lionel F3 locos, but not for horizontal motored F3 locos.
Years ago he offered horizontal motor can motor replacements, but the last time I asked a few years ago, he had stopped making them.
It might be easier to put a later frame under the shell, or else find a Williams F3 in Texas Special livery.
Or... put a less worn horizontal motor in it. They are on eBay frequently, as at least one seller breaks down old F3 locos for parts.
I’ve done two of my f3’s with the Timko drop in cans and they are perfect. I did mine so I could install ERR with cruise.
If you're running all day at a museum, best bet would certainly be a Williams chassis with the Lionel cab attached. The Wms Texas Special was painted in a flat red and is very disappointing (lackluster) compared to the originals or the handsome RK Scale F3 set that MTH did.

Got part #'s Rod?
I just bought a F3 set with dual pullmore's and was going to do an AC commander. I would go all in and change motors too and get better speed control and cruise for the right price.

I am converting my F3's to all can motors, doing a mix of Williams motors and trucks and franks drop ins, but recently doing the Timko so not modifying the frame for wiring.

Bob, no part number. I just emailed him requesting can motor replacements for Lionel vertical pulmore motors in F3’s. Tell him what you have and he’ll fix you up.
