lionel 248 not running smooth

I have a nice pre-war lionel 248. I cleaned it up and it ran great. It has been sitting around for a year and when I put it on the track..it ran but sort of ...stop and go. It doesn't run smooth...it goes then slows then goes then slows.

I assumeI need to clean something...but does anyone know what I should focus on and what to look for?

I am just beginning to work on trains, so I don't have a lot of experience and I appreciate your help.

Check your pickup rollers and then onto the brushes and armature to clean those. Then clear out any old caked grease, oil, and you should be fine.
