I'm trying to restore pre ware 262 loco and need some advise help in regards to spokes wheel restoration.
In detail  I would like to repaint all the spokes on red color. Below are my questions:

1. How to get good access to wheel spokes?
Do I need to pull off the gear from the wheel in order to get good access to spokes ?
If yes how to do it w/o damaging the  gear or zinc wheel itself ?
(gear seems to pressed tight on the wheel)

2. What primer and paint do I have to use for spokes ?
I thought to use some model paint TAMIYA or so.
The best if you can recommend exact paint and primer for it.

3. What technique to use for painting spokes - Just a tiny brush ?

I appreciate your help.
Chris.

You could also post this in the tinplate forum.  It isn't easy.  If you remove the gear, you will probably ruin the wheel.  replacements are about $8-10 depending on source.  If the gear is not rusted, you may be able to get in there and clean it out with a q tip or small brush and cleaner.  btw, replacement gears are also available about $5 each.  Only my opinion, but I would probably just clean that one and not repaint it.  I also understand, you are repainting the loco and wish the wheels to be as nice as the rest.
