At the Allentown meet, last Fall, I was looking at the loco in question. The seller had it for what seemed like an excellent price. I have spotted the same loco on Evilbay and it also has a good price of $72.00.
However, it has only a single can motor. This seems odd, given the obvious room in the rear truck for an addition motor. Has anyone had any experience with this model ?

That was the way it was designed.
What about pulling power ?
A second power truck could be easily added.
Lots of MPC and LTI era diesels have single motors. It was a cost thing and had nothing to do with available space.
It's very possible to add a 2nd motor (you might possibly need a whole power truck.) IMO if you like these "traditional" rectifiers, I would spend a little more and get the LionChief Plus version. My $.02.
