Can anyone tell me how many ohms I should be seeing across the coil. I have only .9 ohms seems a little low.

I could only find 3462-45, but many parts between 3462 and 3472 are the same. This is from Lionel Engineering Standards, section 38, page 3. It has 329 turns of #22 wire. Lionel lists the coil resistance as 0.9 ohms. Looks you hit right on it. I guess that is why the little guy can really throw the milk cans out the door.
