Trains with one steam engine cause dark tender markers

I created a Train named “break down” using my cab 2 with one Mikado steam engine and one hot box car. The train link button works well to activate all the hot box functions, but there is a problem. The coal tender marker lights will not turn on. if I switch to engine control and turn them on, they go off again when I switch to the “Break Down” Train containing my Mikado engine. Also, the reverse light on the tender is disabled too. Is this a known issue with single engine trains? Is there a remedy?
