The original transfer table controller consisted of three momentary switches.
Two are used to move the table back and forth.
The third is used to activate the track so the train can drive on and off.
This third switch also had a #12 light bulb wired in parallel. It would light up when the table was properly aligned with the tracks. You don't have to use a #12 bulb (you probably won't be able to find a socket for one anyway), but you should use one with similar characteristics  - voltage and amperage. Effectively the controller bulb is in parallel with the bulb on the roof of the table's shack, and the locomotive when it is on the track.
