Hi all, I am interested in possibly buying this engine. could you please tell me the difference between this J3a and a j1e Hudson. Also, what do you think of this particular engine in general relative to new ones as this one was made in 2001. I'm referring to detail and quality.

The level of detail is a lot better than the American made Lionel J1E models that came before it, which is saying a lot. It does not have the intricate and sophisticated electronics as the Vision Line 700E, but the detail is still better. The only drawback is the overly long wireless tether drawbar from the locomotive to the tender. I have not heard a complaint about these engines once.
