Lionel 6464 Boxcar Screw Hole Cracks??

So if one has some original 6464 boxcars where the screw hole in the body is not cracked but clearly under slight pressure...is it best o back the screw out...or would that risk making it crack? Hence best to leave it alone? The 1970 Glen Uhl Timken boxcars were prone to this as well.

I would back the screw out just an 1/8 of a turn so there is no pressure on the body.

There's also a little brass ferrule that many cars have to protect the plastic, you might consider those to keep it from being cracked.
