I recently purchased a collection of trains from an estate from a person who lived in Long Island, and purchased a lot of items at Madison Hardware. (This is evident from the newspapers used to wrap many of the pieces and some of the original boxes have the "Madison Hardware" stickers and I even found some small "Madison Hardware" envelopes holding small train parts.
Among the pieces was this "Firefighting Instruction Car #6530". I was just about to sit down and clean it up and noticed something odd. According to the description from both Greenberg & Doyle, the car is "unpainted" body and doors. (Although Greenberg mentions something about a "prototype" in another volume which I don't currently own).
Based on the pictures I just took, one can see that this shell was a BLUE #3530 Mobile Power GM car painted RED. The doors are painted WHITE! Does anyone have further insight? I would to find out what I have.
Thanks,
Greg
