Lionel 700E reproduction 1990 drawbar and pin

I love this locomotive, however only recently I have run it with a train of cars. I am building my first layout and only partially tracked . Several times the pin holding the drawbar has popped out under a medium load of cars (5 MTH 18" passenger cars). I can think of a few ways to tie it down but would rather have someone suggest the right way not my way.
