Hi. I have the chance to buy a nice original 763e and tender. Complete and nice condition for $400. Nothing crumbling etc. But apparently the steam chest rod guide did expand or something. The 2 front wheels rub and hinder the thing from turning. Is this common and is there a remedy? I think the price is good ?

I'm pretty handy at servicing/repairing vintage Lionel items. A 763e is on my list and if you don't grab it, I would appreciate the opportunity to.
I'm thinking I'll grab it anyhow. I'm not the world's best repairman for sure, but not terrible either. Was just looking for some input. Yea, it's really nice for the price.
Once a die-cast piece starts to warp, it will only get worse. There is no way to "fix" it. You might have a nice display piece for a while, but if you want something that runs I would save your money (and a lot of it) for a pristine example from late production, after these issues were cured.
