I have a 1950 773. No offense to 773 guys, but I really hate the look of the small tender with the 773. It’s a great tender with my 226e but just way too small with the 773 for my liking. I’d like to run a scale size tender with it. Can’t afford a 700e (or 763e) but I’d like to find a 700e tender to run with my 773. I’m sure I can adapt the tender to connect with the engine without a lot of trouble. Not so sure about changing the rear coupler. I’m not hung up on keeping everything original. Anyone done this?

MTH Premier, K-Line, Williams brass all made scale NYC standard tenders. You don’t have to limit yourself to Lionel. Every once in a while a separate sale tender shows up on the auction sites.

Or closer in age to your 773, a Hudson Products 700T.
Hudson Products Corp. 0 Gauge (10/2/2017) | Binns Road
These show up occasionally on the bay, and at on-line auctions.

Yup - plus, the tender on the Williams scale-sized die-cast J1e Hudson is a virtual copy of the early one. Even the trucks are built the same way as the Lionel's.
