Well, at least a mystery to me. In all my years as a postwar Lionel baby-boomer I never knew until yesterday that these #90 controllers- or at least some of them- had what appears to be a stainless steel or chrome plated "clip" that fit onto the flat recess between the button and binding posts. The "clip" or "bracket" has a window in it, under which a piece of paper was held in place that could be used to mark what that particular #90 was controlling. It makes for a very nice looking set up. Were these "clips" included at one time with the #90 controllers or were they a separate sale item? Or are the ones I saw on that auction site after market creations by someone other than Lionel? I cannot find a part # or any reference to these "clips" and would like to know more of their history and where I might be able to find some- either original or repro- aside from the auction site and $20 or more. Thanks for any info

There are at least three variations:

With the clip

Without the clip, but there is a band in the casting where the clip went

Redesigned case, with no band.

Be aware that a #92 circuit breaker looks almost identical to the last variation. But it does have marking cast into the case. Sometimes folks mix them up.

Here are all three.

Here is the #92 circuit breaker.

Notice it is labeled "No. 92 Control"

Gentlemen,

My sincere thanks to all of you for your replies and extremely useful and interesting info. CW- the link you provided is great; many thanks!

I am guessing that interest in and demand for these clips is either so low or non-existent that replacement/repro parts are unavailable. I cannot find them on any of the well known parts dealers lists. It would seem to be a fairly easy part to reproduce but if no one wants them, I can understand if no one has made them as aftermarket parts.

Regards,

Mack
